Block Paving Company in Livingston
Prestige Paving & Landscaping Ltd has been laying monoblock for over 20 years, and Livingston is right on our doorstep. Murieston, Eliburn, Dedridge or the Village, you deal with the same small team from the survey to the final sweep. No call centres and no subcontractors.
Most problems with block paving come from what’s underneath. Drives that sink, rock or grow weeds have usually been laid on too little stone. We dig out properly and build the base to take a car, so the blocks stay where they’re put.
- Honest advice on blocks, colours and layout
- Fixed written quotes with no hidden extras
- A tidy crew who look after your home
- All spoil and old paving taken away
Monoblock in Livingston
Monoblock Driveways in Livingston
A block paved drive is hard-wearing, easy to repair and can be laid in almost any colour or pattern. Done properly, it’ll last for decades.
We lay block paving in every part of Livingston, from a single space outside a Craigshill terrace to a double drive in Murieston. We’ll come out, measure up, bring block samples and go through the layout with you.
The blocks are the part you see, but the base is what makes a drive last. We set the falls so water runs away from the house, and fit a channel drain where it’s needed.
What We Do
Laying patterns
Herringbone for driveways that take a car, plus basketweave and stretcher bond for paths and patios.
Colours & blends
Charcoal, silver, brindle, red and mixed blends, with contrasting borders to frame the drive.
Kerbs & edging
Concrete-haunched edging so the blocks can’t spread, plus kerbs, steps and raised edges.
Drainage
Proper falls, channel drains and permeable blocks so water has somewhere to go.
Dropped kerbs
We can arrange a new or wider dropped kerb with the council for proper access.
Walls & sleepers
Low walls, sleeper edges and steps where the drive meets the garden.
How we build it
What goes under your block paving
The base is the part you never see, and it’s the part that decides how long the drive lasts. These are photos from our own jobs.

Free survey & quote
We measure up, check levels and drainage, show you block samples and give you a fixed price in writing.
Dig out
Old paving, soil and roots come out, usually to around 200mm for a driveway, and it’s all taken away.
Sub-base
Type 1 stone is laid in layers and compacted with a plate compactor to make a solid base that won’t move.
Edging & drainage
Kerbs and edging are set in concrete, and channel drains go in where water needs to be taken away.
Laying the blocks
A sand bed is screeded level, the blocks are laid to pattern and every edge is cut neatly.
Sand, compact & handover
Kiln-dried sand is brushed into the joints and compacted in, then we clean up and walk you round it.
Local know-how
Driveways we lay most
Livingston has 60s and 70s new-town streets, big private estates and plenty of newer builds. These are the block paving jobs we get asked for most.
Front garden conversions
In Craigshill, Ladywell and Knightsridge we turn front lawns into off-street parking, with a dropped kerb through West Lothian Council if you need one.
Old red monoblock
Lots of drives in Dedridge, Howden and Deans were laid years ago and have faded, sunk or filled with weeds. We lift them out and re-lay on a new base.
Parking for two or three cars
Driveways widened or extended so everyone can get parked, matched in or framed with a border.
Sloping driveways
Steps, walls and channel drains so a drive on a slope is safe to use and doesn’t send water to the door.
New-build drives
Newer homes in Eliburn, Adambrae and Bellsquarry often came with plain tarmac or a narrow drive. We replace or widen them in block paving.
Drive and patio together
Front drive and back patio done in matching blocks so the whole property ties in.

Block paved driveways
Block Paved Driveways in Livingston
A new monoblock driveway from the ground up. We dig out, build and compact the sub-base, set the edging, then lay the blocks in a pattern that can take the weight of a car.
Most drives are laid in herringbone with a contrasting border, but we’ll go through colours and layouts with you at the survey.
- Full dig-out and Type 1 sub-base
- Herringbone laid to take vehicles
- Borders, kerbs and channel drains

Old drive replacements
Replacing Old Block Paving
If your old drive has sunk, rocked loose or turned green with weeds, re-sanding won’t fix it for long. We lift it all out, sort the base underneath and lay a new drive on top.
The photo shows a recent job: tired red herringbone with a sunken middle, replaced with a new grey block drive.
- Old blocks lifted and taken away
- New compacted base
- Modern blocks in your choice of colour

Driveway extensions
Driveway Extensions in Livingston
Need room for another car? We can widen or extend your existing drive into the garden, matching the blocks as closely as possible or using a border so the new part looks like it was always meant to be there.
- Wider drives and extra parking spaces
- Matched blocks or a planned border
- Dropped kerb arranged if needed

Patterns, colours & borders
Patterns, Colours & Borders
Block paving gives you a lot of choice. Pick the block, the colour, the laying pattern and the border, and add feature bands or diamonds if you want something different.
- Herringbone, basketweave and stretcher bond
- Charcoal, silver, brindle and red blends
- Contrasting borders and feature bands

Permeable block paving
Permeable Block Paving
Permeable blocks have wider joints filled with fine grit, so rainwater drains straight through into a free-draining base. It helps stop puddles and run-off and usually means planning permission isn’t needed for a front drive.
- Rainwater drains through the surface
- Helps with SuDS and planning rules
- Same look and strength as standard blocks

Block paved patios
Block Paved Patios
Block paving isn’t just for the front. A block paved patio is hard-wearing, easy to clean and can be laid to match your driveway or framed with a contrasting border.
- Patios and seating areas
- Bases for garden rooms and pergolas
- Matched to your driveway

Paths, steps & edging
Block Paved Paths & Steps
Block paths make getting round the house and garden easy, and steps and kerbs sort out changes in level. Curves are no problem, we cut every block to fit.
- Straight and curved paths
- Steps, landings and kerbs
- Lawn edging and borders

Repairs & re-laying
Block Paving Repairs
Not every drive needs replacing. Where a small area has sunk or a few blocks have broken, we lift that section, fix the base, re-lay the blocks and re-sand the joints.
- Sunken and uneven areas re-laid
- Broken blocks replaced
- Joints re-sanded and compacted
We also lay resin, tarmac and slab patios if you need more than block paving.

Good to know
Block paving questions we’re often asked
How much does block paving cost in Livingston?
It depends on the size, how much needs digging out, the blocks you pick and things like kerbs, drainage and steps. A small path costs a lot less than a full driveway with borders and a channel drain. We come out for free, measure up and give you a fixed price in writing.
How long does a block paved driveway take?
Most driveways take three to five days, from digging out to the final sweep of sand. Bigger drives or ones with a lot of steps and walls can take a bit longer. You’ll know the timescale before we start.
How deep do you dig out for a driveway?
For a driveway we usually dig out around 200mm, then lay and compact a Type 1 sub-base before the sand bed and blocks go down. Paths and patios don’t need to go as deep. If the ground is soft we go deeper.
Will weeds grow through the joints?
A properly laid drive with tight joints and kiln-dried sand brushed in and compacted gives weeds very little to grow in. Topping up the sand now and again keeps it that way.
Do I need planning permission for a block paved driveway?
Usually not, as long as rainwater drains within your own property, through permeable blocks, a channel drain to a soakaway, or onto a lawn or border. Listed buildings, flats and conservation areas like Livingston Village can be different, and a new or wider dropped kerb needs West Lothian Council’s consent.
Can you match an extension to my existing drive?
In most cases, yes. We bring samples to find the closest match, and where an exact match isn’t possible we can use a border or feature band so the new part looks planned rather than patched.
Can you fix sunken or uneven block paving?
Yes. We lift the blocks in the problem area, sort out the base underneath, re-lay the same blocks and re-sand the joints. It is often much cheaper than a new drive.
Is your work guaranteed?
Yes, all of our work is guaranteed. We’re a vetted Checkatrade member, rated 9.83/10 from 50 verified reviews, and Checkatrade’s £1,000 guarantee applies to eligible jobs (their T&Cs apply).
